I examine public responses to energy / green transitions in a post-pandemic world, climate governance post-COP26, and factors constraining or facilitating renewable energy development. I employ a range of methodologies, including interviews, focus groups, deliberative workshops, mass media content analysis, discourse analysis, and participant observation, but my recent work relies primarily on advanced statistical modelling of survey data.

I co-direct the MSc programme in Global Environment, Politics and Society at the University of Edinburgh and teach the core introductory environmental politics/governance course in this programme, as well as an MSc course in 'Environmental risk: Politics, Communication, and Ethics'. I contribute to undergraduate sustainable development courses with units on international governance and environmental justice. I regularly guest lecture in Geosciences courses and courses on political data analysis.
I collaborate closely with a number of societal and policy-oriented stakeholders working on energy and climate issues. I collaborate closely with a number of societal and policy-oriented stakeholders working on energy and climate issues. I have co-designed research with the British Geological Survey on multiple projects; I have advised the UK Environment Agency and UK Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. I held a fellowship to advise the Scottish Parliament on green recovery from COVID-19, and worked with the Welsh Government's decarbonisation team to research public visions of energy futures in Wales.
